Attractions in Eindhoven
Eindhoven attractions? Although Eindhoven is primarily a city with an industrial past, it has much to offer for those are visiting the city, such as museums, theaters, as well as a host of restaurants, bars, and clubs.
Some of the attractions you might be interested in visiting are listed below.
Museums
- Van Abbe Museum
One of the main attractions Eindhoven has to offer is the Van Abbe Museum.
The recently expanded Van Abbe Museum is one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary art in Holland. It features an internationally renowned collection, including works by Picasso, Modriaan, Appel, Chagall, Lissitzki, and Beuys. The Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven
- Historic Open Air Museum
The Historic Open Air Museum is located in a rural setting near the southern edge of Eindhoven. This museum allows you to dive into the past of the Netherlands as you visit a village from the Iron Age (750 - 50 BC) and a small medieval town (500 - 1600 AD). The museum is manned by appropriately dressed volunteers who show you how these distant ancestors used to live and work. The museum also features many themed weekends, which may or may not include hands-on activities (for children as well).
- DAF Museum
The DAF Museums is a must-see for car aficionados. DAF is the only car company that originated in the Netherlands, and this museum shows the cars and trucks it produced in the past, including some very strange creations that never made it to production. (These days, DAF limits its production to trucks). A great way to revisit the 1960s in the Netherlands.
You can find the DAF Museum at Tongelresestraat 27 in Eindhoven. Admission is €6.50 for adults.
Theaters
- City Theater
The largest theater in the city; offers a year-round program in cabaret, comedy, dance, opera, musicals and more. The City Theater is the largest theater in Eindhoven.
- Muziekcentrum Frits Philips
Large music center where both national and international music artists give performances. The music center is located in downtown and offers a wide range of concerts, from jazz and blues to rock and pop.
Nightlife in Eindhoven
To wrap up this overview of Eindhoven attractions, you'll be introduced to the nightlife in the city. If you'd like to go out on the weekends, Eindhoven has a lot to offer. All of the venues mentioned below can be found in the downtown area, within walking distance of the train station.
Stratum's Eind is without a doubt Eindhoven's main street as far as nightlife is concerned. Approximately 40 bars, clubs and restaurants are located in this one street, which is also very popular among students.
De Markt, a large square located smack-dab in the center of the shopping area, offers a more relaxed atmosphere. Here, you can relax and enjoy your favorite drink while you watch the passers-by; or you can enjoy a relatively cheap (but good) dinner at one of the restaurants. If you really crave the hamburgers you're used to, you can also visit McDonald's or KFC.
Café at the Markt in Eindhoven
De Markt is a perfect place to unwind on a warm Spring or Summer day.
Stationskwartier is just across the street from the central train station. This is where some of the more expensive restaurants are located, as well as Eindhoven's largest cinema (Pathé).
